12306 Ticket Paid but No Confirmation Email? Check the Actual Order

The paid transaction, missing notification and valid boarding ticket are three different things.

Quick answer: A missing email or SMS does not by itself cancel a confirmed train ticket. China Railway's own booking FAQ instructs customers to verify the transaction in 12306 order inquiry. First confirm that the correct passenger and train are in a completed ticket order—not a waitlist prepayment.

Decision flow: check actual account, confirm issued booking, match the passport and train.

What does your 12306 order actually show?

In a May 2026 foreign-traveler discussion, a buyer had completed a business-class booking but received no email; another asked whether the app label “paid” alone was enough. The railway's published guidance resolves the key distinction: messages can be lost through telecom or email providers, but the order inquiry result is decisive for purchase, change and refund transactions.

A five-minute verification before travel

  1. Sign into the official 12306 website or app using the account that placed the order.
  2. Open your ticket order history / order query rather than merely checking the email inbox.
  3. Identify the completed order containing your train number, departure date, origin/destination and passenger. Check any available carriage/seat assignment.
  4. Compare the passport name and number on the booking with the original passport you will carry.
  5. Save the booking record for reference; obtain official assistance if the transaction outcome still disagrees with the money debited.

Actual screen labels can vary by web language and app version. This guide is not a screenshot of a live account, and it does not claim that every possible “paid” status is equivalent to a ticket issued.

No notification versus no issued ticket: do not confuse them

There are two common different problems. Notification failure: a completed passenger ticket is visible inside the railway account, but an email or SMS never arrives. The official FAQ tells travelers to rely on the order query. Fulfillment failure: you paid a 12306 standby prepayment and the order is still waiting to find a seat; this is not a valid admission to board.

If you only see a waitlist, the standby guide explains how to check whether the railway actually fulfilled it. If a transaction shows up at your bank but no booking can be located, check whether payment posted or remains a temporary authorization and ask the railway/payment provider to trace the original transaction before purchasing again.

Recovery flow: if only a standby order exists, if no order is shown, or if booking was through a third party.

Boarding with a foreign passport

China's rail system links real-name tickets to passenger identity. Carry your original passport used for the booking; a screenshot of an email is not a substitute for the correct identity document. Follow the station's passport verification channel and staffed lane if an automated reader cannot process your document.

Itinerary screenshot, seat label and departure time can still be useful as supporting details for staff, but they are not themselves a new ticket. If verification is blocked, see passport gate troubleshooting and do not leave the issue until the train is boarding.

Explain the exact issue in Chinese

我在12306购买了火车票,已经付款,但是没有收到短信或邮件。请帮我根据订单查询确认是否已出票,以及乘车人证件信息是否正确。

I bought a train ticket on 12306 and paid, but no SMS or email arrived. Could you check the order inquiry to confirm whether a ticket was issued and whether my passenger document is correct?

Do not share a full passport photograph or a payment card screenshot in a public forum. Use the verified railway order page or authorized support to discuss private booking identifiers.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a PDF e-ticket attached to an email?

12306's official instruction focuses on the valid order result. Boarding identification is based on the passenger's real-name document. Check the railway's current app instructions for your exact booking.

Should I buy another ticket if the email is missing?

Not until you determine whether a completed order already exists; otherwise you risk a duplicate purchase.

What if the missing email is my account-verification code?

That is a registration/login problem, not missing booking confirmation. Use the account verification guide.
