Can I Bring Vyvanse / Elvanse to China?
Vyvanse / Elvanse contains lisdexamfetamine. Check your entry route, carried quantity, prescription evidence, documents, and the questions your arrival Customs office still needs to confirm.
Vyvanse travel check
Am I ready to enter China with my Vyvanse?
Vyvanse / Elvanse contains lisdexamfetamine dimesylate. This checker is about border compliance, not how or whether you should take the medicine.
Travel/import compliance information only — not medical advice. This page does not tell you to start, stop, change, replace, or substitute any medication.

01 What to pack
Put these items together before you fly
Prepare medicine, prescription evidence, diagnosis evidence and identity together. A complete pack supports Customs review; it does not establish the permitted quantity for a foreign prescription.

Article 44 refers to the maximum permitted on a single prescription. The amount on a foreign dispensing record is not proof of that legal maximum. Matching the two counts is a document check; ask your arrival Customs office to confirm the allowed quantity for your exact prescription and formulation. The 28 / 30 / 90 shortcuts are pack sizes, not import allowances.
02 At Customs
Follow this sequence when you enter mainland China
This is the practical handoff from “my documents are ready” to “Customs can make the on-site decision.”

Before Customs
Keep the pack together
Labelled medicine + prescription / dispensing record + diagnosis / doctor certificate + passport.
Declare
Use the Things-to-declare / red channel
Official traveler guidance advises proactively declaring these medicines. If you are unsure which channel applies, China Customs directs travelers to the declaration channel.
Illustrative airport inspection scenePresent
Show the medicine and documents as one case
Customs checks the personal-use purpose, supporting medical evidence, identity, and whether the quantity is reasonable / within the documented prescription path.
ON-SITE REVIEW
Decision
Customs decides release on site
Article 44 describes an individual medical-use pathway and a separate provision for medical personnel. This does not by itself settle Vyvanse classification, foreign-prescription limits or your port’s required documents. Confirm these before departure; Customs decides release on site.
For Shanghai entry, Shanghai Customs publishes 021-12360 in its medication entry Q&A. For another port, use the official Customs consultation guide to find the responsible office. Overseas connectivity and English availability have not been confirmed. We have not verified a dedicated medication-entry email.
03 FAQ
Common Vyvanse travel questions
Is there a universal 30-day limit for Vyvanse?
No universal 30-day allowance for this case has been verified. Article 44 uses a single-prescription maximum, linked to prescribing rules. We have not verified that a foreign 28-, 30- or 90-capsule prescription is accepted as that maximum. The Shanghai medication Q&A discusses 3- and 7-day limits and a methylphenidate exception; these do not establish a Vyvanse-specific allowance. Confirm your exact quantity with the arrival Customs office.
Is a prescription alone enough?
The controlled-medicine traveler rule also refers to a medical diagnosis certificate and identity proof. That is why the checker treats a prescription without diagnosis / doctor documentation as not ready.
Do I have to declare it?
If you enter mainland China, use the Things-to-declare / red channel when declaring the medicine or whenever you are unsure which channel applies. Shanghai Pudong has a narrow official exception for travelers who stay airside and do not pass immigration.
What if I only transit Shanghai Pudong?
The 15 September 2026 Shanghai Customs Q&A specifically addresses Elvanse / lisdexamfetamine in that scenario. If you remain in the international transit area and do not pass immigration, you may be exempt from the baggage declaration form. If you must collect baggage or pass immigration, use the mainland-entry path instead.
Can this page guarantee Customs clearance?
No website can replace the on-site Customs decision. This page identifies document gaps and unresolved quantity questions, and helps you prepare the official inquiry when a case still needs one.
05 Sources and evidence
Medication controls, Customs practice, and port-specific procedures can change. This page was independently checked on 2 Oct 2026. The result uses current official evidence but cannot replace an on-site Customs decision.
Why does this page use the controlled-medicine pathway?
Vyvanse / Elvanse: the FDA label identifies lisdexamfetamine dimesylate as the active ingredient, and current U.S. State Department China guidance explicitly warns that China restricts amphetamine medications including Vyvanse.
Chinese regulatory context: a January 2026 official transport-permit record explicitly lists 二甲磺酸利右苯丙胺 and its capsules in a Category-I psychotropic permit context. We did not find lisdexamfetamine directly named in the 2025 medicinal psychotropic catalogue. A local transport permit is supporting context, not a nationwide listing or traveler-entry decision. Dexamfetamine is a distinct listed substance; the name alone does not settle lisdexamfetamine’s classification.
Traveler action: Articles 40 and 44 describe prescription quantity and a personal medical-use pathway with diagnosis evidence, identity and Customs review. Their application to this drug and a foreign prescription still needs confirmation for the exact case.
