Tianmen Mountain A/B Lines Suspended from October 13, 2026: C-Line Ticket Guide

Urgent 2026 update · Checked October 12

Starting October 13, 2026, Tianmen Mountain suspends the full-length Tianmen cableway and its A/B route tickets for renovation; the scenic area says only the two-way C route remains open until further notice. The regular one-way Routes 1/2 are also suspended. If you previously chose A/B on Trip.com, check your existing booking with its original seller before traveling; do not assume an automatic refund, reroute or replacement. C-line still reaches Tianmen Cave and the mountain summit using the express cableway and through-mountain escalators, but it does not include the separately charged lower Tianmen Cave climbing escalator.

What exactly changes on October 13?

The October 10 scenic-area notice, reported by Hunan Daily and Hunan Rednet on October 11, states the long Tianmen Mountain Cableway ceases passenger operation along its full route beginning October 13 because of a major upgrade. Reopening will be separately announced.

Route or transport Published October 13 onward status
Two-way Route A Suspended
Two-way Route B Suspended
One-way Routes 1 and 2 Suspended
Two-way Route C Operating, subject to weather/capacity
Tianmen Cave Express Cableway Operating for Route C
Shuttle between old lower cableway station and mountain gate Operating
Seven-section upper through-mountain escalator Included in C package, both directions
Separate lower Tianmen Cave ascent escalator Not included in C package

This is a dated, current operational change, not a permanent assertion that the park has abolished Routes A/B. Many evergreen route comparison articles and reseller listings describe historic full-length cableway trips; they can mislead travelers booking October 13 and beyond.

Route C after the suspension: a usable journey sequence

The announced visitor path is:

  1. Travel to the Tianmen Mountain scenic entrance / mountain gate (山门). The shuttle from the old Tianmen Cableway downtown lower station continues to run.
  2. Enter according to the exact issued C-line entry date and time.
  3. Take the Tianmen Cave Express Cableway (天门洞快线索道) uphill to the Tianmen Cave area.
  4. Explore the cave zone. To reach the summit from behind the cave, take the seven-section through-mountain escalators (七级穿山自动扶梯), which are included in the C-line route package.
  5. Explore any summit paths that are actually open; glass cliff walkways, cliff stairs and access can close due to weather, events or maintenance.
  6. Return via the same seven-section escalators, then the Tianmen Cave Express Cableway downhill, leaving at the mountain gate.

Do not plan on taking the famous long cableway from downtown directly up to the summit during this closure. The C-line does not recreate the same scenic cableway experience.

The separate lower Tianmen Cave climbing escalator (登天门扶梯) is not included in the posted C-line ticket. Ask the current on-site operator for its price/availability if you need that segment.

Already bought an A/B ticket? Take these actions in order

A real traveler in September 2026 struggled with confusing Trip.com combinations, while an August 2026 buyer was uncertain about additional cableway charges. Those questions are now especially urgent for visitors whose purchased itinerary conflicts with the October closure.

  1. Open the actual paid ticket order. Verify Tianmen Mountain, date, route A/B/C, time slot, transport inclusions, and seller/issuer.
  2. Screenshot the scenic-area October 10 notice and your original order. Check whether the seller has already sent a new route or cancellation notification.
  3. Contact your original platform (Trip.com, tour agency or other issuer). Ask whether the A/B product is still valid, will be automatically converted, or must be canceled and replaced. These are questions—not promises of automatic processing.
  4. Obtain written confirmation of the new valid admission route or actual refund status. Do not assume an unconfirmed “replacement ticket” will be accepted at the gate.
  5. If an upcoming train or flight depends on the long cableway excursion, adjust your day plan and transport buffers. The updated C-line trip may take a different amount of time.
  6. If you have no answer by the day before visiting, contact the scenic area using the phone number from its current posted notice (0744-8366666 in Hunan news coverage) or ask your hotel staff for help reaching official ticket services.

Never send passport scans or payment card credentials to a self-described social-media “ticket exchange agent.”

Admission timing during the operational change

The scenic-area announcement lists ticket sales 07:30–16:00 and passenger service from 08:00 during the C-only period, with changes possible by new notice. These are operating hours, not a guarantee of same-day C-line ticket availability. Keep your specific booked time and visit date.

The Hunan government previously documented a March 2026 cableway maintenance rerouting, demonstrating that Tianmen routes are subject to temporary, date-specific operational changes. Do not rely on generic descriptions copied from older months.

Is the glass skywalk still open?

The October announcement cautions that western/eastern glass plank roads, cliff walkways, and Tianmen Cave stair areas may close for weather, maintenance or events. A C-line ticket is not a universal promise of every attraction/segment being open. Verify the individual area on arrival.

Tianmen Mountain (near Zhangjiajie city) also is not the same ticket as Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Wulingyuan (the “Avatar Mountains”), nor is a Tianmen C-line ticket a free entry to the Grand Canyon Glass Bridge. If you are budgeting days, see our Zhangjiajie itinerary length guide.

Bilingual ticket-issuer message

我购买了2026年10月13日之后的天门山A/B线门票,但景区公告说因索道改造仅开放C线。请确认这张订单是否会自动改为C线、需要重新出票还是退款?如果改签,包含哪段索道和扶梯?

I booked a Tianmen Mountain A/B ticket for after October 13, 2026, but the scenic area’s notice says C is the only operating route. Please confirm whether my existing order will be converted, canceled or refunded. If reissued, which cableways and escalators are included?

Frequently asked questions

Can I ride the long downtown cableway after October 13, 2026?

The scenic area’s October 10 notice states its full-length Tianmen Cableway stops passenger operation until further announcement. C-line uses the Tianmen Cave Express Cableway instead.

Does C-line visit the summit or only Tianmen Cave?

The published route includes the seven-section through-mountain escalators to the summit and back, subject to actual area openings.

Does the C ticket include all escalators?

No. It specifically excludes the separate lower Tianmen Cave climbing escalator while including the seven-section summit escalator.

Will Trip.com automatically refund my A/B ticket?

Do not assume so. Only your original issuer can confirm the handling and any change/refund outcome for your exact order.
