2. Already visiting Dujiangyan or Qingcheng Mountain?
3. Transfer tolerance
4. Main priority

03 Chengdu

Chengdu Research Base

Why choose it: Default for first-time visitors staying in Chengdu when half a day and easy transport matter most. Official pages document Metro Line 3 connections plus shuttle/bus options, and a sightseeing bus at CNY 30.

Main trade-off: Recent visitors often report it is larger and easier — and can be very busy. Crowd levels and panda activity are not guaranteed.

Current tickets: Adult ticket CNY 55. Online real-name reservation up to 14 days in advance. March–October morning entry 07:30–12:00, afternoon 12:00–17:00, clearance from 18:00; November–February morning 08:00–12:00, afternoon 12:00–16:30, clearance from 17:30 (official).

Foreign-passport path — officially supported: Passport holders use the Passport & Other Documents / no-ID-card verification lane. Official channels include the official WeChat / mini program and authorized platforms including Trip.com. A 2026 official holiday notice states foreign visitors unable to buy online without a Chinese phone number may use Trip.com or, subject to remaining inventory, the Cash and Cards service window — do not treat walk-up inventory as guaranteed.

Who should not choose it: Travelers already deep into a Dujiangyan/Qingcheng day who prefer a field-center setting may fit Panda Valley better; specialist full-day mountain trips belong at Wolong.

04 Dujiangyan

Dujiangyan Panda Valley

Why choose it: Prefer when Dujiangyan or Qingcheng Mountain is already on the itinerary, you accept the transfer (~50 km from Chengdu), and an ecological / field-center setting matters. Official description emphasizes wild training, reintroduction, conservation education, and red-panda areas.

Main trade-off: It is a separate facility with a separate ticket from Chengdu Research Base. Recent visitors often report a smaller, greener feel — experiences still vary by day and arrival time. Do not treat “less crowded” as a guarantee.

Current tickets: Full ticket CNY 55. Current official English page shows reservations for the recent 7-day window. Purchase via the official site / Panda Valley WeChat.

Foreign-passport path — officially supported: Official pages support Passport as an admission document. Reserve online in advance. English and Chinese official pages differ on offline cash fallback — do not promise a walk-up ticket.

Who should not choose it: Travelers with only a short Chengdu half-day and low transfer tolerance should stay with Chengdu Research Base. Never confuse this open Panda Valley with the closed CCRCGP Dujiangyan Base.

05 Wolong

Wolong Shenshuping

Why choose it: Prefer when you are a serious panda enthusiast, can dedicate a full day, and accept a long mountain transfer from Chengdu. Wolong Shenshuping is part of CCRCGP and was operating with reported summer visitation in 2026.

Main trade-off: This is a longer excursion, not a quick Chengdu add-on. Crowd levels are not promised.

Current tickets: A 2026 official cross-attraction promotion states standard Wolong ticket price CNY 90. Current marketplace inventory may list products for non-mainland visitors — treat those listings as secondary to the official ticket source.

Foreign-passport path — marketplace listings only: No officially documented English-language passport booking flow exists for this base; confirm the accepted document type with the seller before you pay.

Who should not choose it: Half-day Chengdu visitors or travelers with low transfer tolerance — choose Chengdu Research Base instead.

06 Ya'an

Bifengxia (Ya'an Base)

Why choose it: Prefer when a Ya'an / gorge / nature extension is already desired and a full day or overnight is acceptable. CCRCGP’s Ya'an base sits inside Bifengxia Scenic Area, roughly 18 km from Ya'an city (official sources).

Main trade-off: Not the rational default for a rushed Chengdu visitor. Treat it as a nature-day extension, not a half-day panda stop.

Current tickets: Current marketplace inventory commonly sells scenic-area access including the panda base plus internal transport at approximately CNY 95–100 — marketplace listing, not an official price guarantee.

Foreign-passport path — marketplace listings only: No official foreign-passport online booking flow is documented for this base; confirm the accepted document type with the provider before you pay.

Who should not choose it: Anyone optimizing for the easiest Chengdu half-day panda visit.

07 Booking

Foreign visitor booking paths

  • Officially supported: Chengdu Research Base and Panda Valley — official sites, Passport admission language, and for Chengdu also authorized Trip.com / holiday Cash and Cards fallback subject to inventory. The step-by-step booking route for that base — overseas-number payment, morning or afternoon entry periods and the passport gate lane — is in Chengdu Panda Base tickets without a Chinese phone number.
  • Marketplace listings: Wolong and Bifengxia — useful current inventory may exist, but verify document requirements and seller terms before payment.
  • Closed: CCRCGP Dujiangyan Base (Closed from 2026-04-23; reopening TBD).

08 Timing

When should you go?

Recent visitors often report better viewing or more activity earlier in the day, but panda behavior is not guaranteed. Do not treat any clock window as a promise of activity, cubs, or close views. Follow each facility’s published entry windows after you reserve.
