Quick answer
Do not assume you can launch your personal drone inside Zhangjiajie National Forest Park just because you registered it with CAAC or DJI Fly shows a green zone. We found official evidence that the park operates a drone assistance station to explain no-fly areas and help visitors select shooting plans. But the published report does not grant blanket take-off permission or identify an open public launch area. If you cannot confirm the specific take-off point and any local approval with the park, do not launch.
The park visitor service center is listed as 0744-5712345 in a September 2026 official park holiday notice. It is a general information number, not a proven permit office. Source: National Forest Park visitor notice.
Which Zhangjiajie do you mean?
Online posts use “Zhangjiajie” for several different attractions. The location you actually plan to take off from is the critical input. A visitor report about a nearby resort or a permitted demonstration does not prove your launch inside Wulingyuan will be allowed.

The two permission checks
Look up the specific intended launch coordinates and time, not just “Zhangjiajie”. Whether flight approval is required depends on the current airspace and proposed operation. See our airspace and flight-permit guide.
Contact the operator of your attraction and ask about visitor-owned drones, launch locations, flight hours, wildlife and cable-car safety, temporary restrictions and any on-site permission. The UOM map alone cannot grant access to a privately or publicly managed scenic launch site.
Make sure your UOM aircraft record and serial number actually match. This is a separate requirement, not a substitute for either of the checks above. Foreign-passport registration walkthrough.
Some domestic rules provide different treatments for certain lightweight aircraft and low-risk operations. Do not interpret those rules as an exception to an attraction's visitor conditions or restricted airspace.
Ask the actual park operator
In January 2026, Hunan Provincial Government reported that Zhangjiajie National Forest Park had established a 无人机便民服务站 (drone visitor assistance station). The station reportedly explained prohibited areas, helped adjust equipment and suggested filming options. This is evidence of an information service, not evidence that anyone can fly after asking.
Before carrying your drone to the entrance, call the park's visitor center at 0744-5712345, or ask in person at the staffed visitor service desk. Prepare these details: exact attraction/entrance, launch spot, aircraft model, intended date and whether you are a private tourist or a commercial filming team.
Chinese enquiry you can show staff:
“您好,我是外国游客。我想在张家界国家森林公园的[具体地点]使用自带的小型无人机航拍。请问游客可以在这里起飞吗?如需景区许可或飞行申报,应向哪个部门申请?如果不允许,请问哪里可以咨询合规拍摄区域?”Meaning: Can a foreign visitor launch a personally owned small drone at this exact location? Who confirms scenic-area permission and airspace filing? Where should I ask about permitted areas if not here?
Read Hunan Province's park drone-station report. The report does not publish a list of approved tourist flight zones.
What if you cannot get confirmation?
| Situation | Practical next step |
|---|---|
| The UOM zone looks flyable but the park gives no explicit launch answer | Do not launch inside the attraction; seek written or staff-confirmed instruction first. |
| A staff member says the area is restricted | Follow the restriction. Ask whether an officially provided filming product or a different visitor viewpoint is available. |
| You find online aerial footage from the same peaks | Do not infer that footage was made by a tourist under today's conditions. It may come from an operator, an earlier date or an authorised project. |
| Your DJI Fly app says “take-off permitted” | The app's geofence is only one technical layer; ask UOM and the scenic operator. |
During holiday periods, weather events or crowded cable-car operations, temporary restrictions may change. Keep the confirmation date, source and exact location together.
DJI Mini, permits and photography alternatives
Mini 4 Pro, Mini 5 Pro and Neo owners: low take-off weight is not a blanket park-launch permit. Model classes, equipment settings, CAAC registration and local permissions must be considered separately. Do not skip official checks based on a foreign DJI forum comment.
For aerial perspectives without flying your own aircraft, the provincial government reported an official panoramic-drone VR sightseeing experience using a monitored system. Confirm current availability and pricing with the park; the announcement is not a booking guarantee. Scenic viewpoints, cable cars and tripod photography may also satisfy your filming plan without exposing your equipment to a disputed launch.

FAQ
Can I fly from Yuanjiajie or Tianzi Mountain?
We have not verified a currently published, park-wide tourist launch authorisation for either location. Ask the park management using the specific spot and date; do not launch unless all applicable conditions are satisfied.
Does the drone visitor assistance station issue permits?
Its existence and advisory role are confirmed by Hunan's government report. We could not verify that it issues legal flight authorisations; ask the park directly.
Can I use a sub-250g drone without registration?
Do not combine weight-based national registration exceptions, airspace restrictions and scenic-area permission into a single yes/no shortcut. Check the rules for the model, place and proposed operation separately.
Do Tianmen Mountain and Zhangjiajie National Forest Park have the same policy?
No such equivalence has been established. They are different visitor areas and their operator conditions must be checked independently.
