Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge: 240-Hour China Transit Entry in 2026

Quick decision · Checked October 12, 2026

The bridge port joined the eligible 240-hour transit entry ports in November 2025. The bridge being open does not itself grant visa-free admission: your nationality, journey to a third country or region, onward ticket and Guangdong movement still matter.

What changed at the bridge in 2026

The National Immigration Administration’s port announcement added the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge Port to the 240-hour visa-free transit program on November 5, 2025. It was one of five additions in Guangdong. The separate August 2026 announcement expanded the eligible-nationality list to 57; check the current nationality list rather than copying a 2025 infographic.

This is a transit exemption, not permission for every passenger crossing from Hong Kong to Zhuhai. A traveler who is not nationality-eligible, lacks a qualifying onward booking or cannot satisfy border inspection should use their applicable visa or separate visa-free basis.

Run the route check before buying a bus ticket

  1. Your passport: check the NIA eligible nationalities and ordinary-passport condition.
  2. Where you actually enter: confirm the vehicle carries you through the named Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge mainland inspection port, not a different crossing.
  3. Destination after mainland China: retain a confirmed ticket leaving mainland China for a third country or region. A planned return to the region you arrived from may fail the transit requirement.
  4. Movement: a Zhuhai-to-Shenzhen trip remains inside Guangdong, but it must also fit the current permitted stay area and departure rules.
  5. Timing: inspect the 240-hour calculation against your confirmed arrival and exit times, not against hotel check-in.

Example: Hong Kong → Zhuhai → Shenzhen → Indonesia

A traveler arriving from Hong Kong over the bridge, traveling onward within Guangdong to Shenzhen and flying directly to Indonesia may have a route that meets the third-region element. It is not approval in advance; entry also depends on nationality, travel documents, ticket confirmation and immigration examination.

By contrast, Hong Kong → Zhuhai → Shenzhen → Hong Kong is not the ordinary third-region transit pattern. Do not rely on sightseeing in Shenzhen or a return flight being called international to make the inbound and outbound regions different.

Documents and Chinese explanation at the port

Bring your original passport, transportation ticket into the mainland, confirmed dated outbound ticket, proof of accommodation and a compact route itinerary. Keep the actual segments readable offline in case mobile service fails. Border staff may request additional materials.

我想申请240小时过境免签。我从香港经港珠澳大桥进入珠海,在广东省内旅行,然后从深圳前往第三国(地区)。这是我已确认的离境机票。请问是否符合此口岸的过境条件?

I plan to transit under the 240-hour arrangement, enter at the bridge port, travel in Guangdong and depart Shenzhen for a different country/region. Here is my confirmed onward ticket. May I apply at this port?

If the bus operator or border officer says no

Do not argue that this article is an authorization letter. Ask exactly which element is missing: eligible passport, listed port, onward destination, ticket, or journey documents. An operator may apply its own boarding-document review, and admission decisions rest with immigration officials. If you cannot establish eligibility, postpone the crossing or arrange an appropriate visa; do not assume you can change to a second crossing at the last minute.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see Shenzhen after entering at Zhuhai?

Guangdong travel is generally within the permitted region under the current NIA framework, provided your overall transit eligibility and departure plan remain valid.

Is the bridge automatically visa-free for tourists?

No. The 240-hour rule is a conditional transit admission category.

Can I return directly to Hong Kong?

Do not assume that counts as onward transit to a third region when you entered from Hong Kong. Re-check your actual inbound and outbound legs with NIA.
